A Prayer for Peaceful Sleep and a Quiet Mind

This prayer is for the weary heart that needs to lay down the burdens of the day and rest in God’s peace. It asks the Lord for mercy, protection, quiet thoughts, and holy sleep under His covering.

Laying the Day Down...

Night often reveals what the day has been carrying. Worries feel larger, thoughts grow louder, and the body longs for rest that the mind cannot always give. That is why this prayer begins with surrender.

Psalm 4:8 offers a gentle promise: the believer can lie down in peace because the Lord gives safety. From there, the prayer asks for forgiveness, a clean heart, and renewed strength for whatever was unfinished or heavy. It does not pretend the day was perfect; it simply brings everything back to God.

This is the gift of bedtime prayer. It helps the soul stop holding what was never meant to be carried into the night. Peace at night is not only about sleep; it is about trust. Psalm 91 speaks of dwelling in the secret place of the Most High and abiding under the shadow of the Almighty. That is a place of covering, safety, and nearness.

This prayer asks God to be refuge, fortress, and peace for the one who feels unsettled. It also asks Him to bless the home, watch over loved ones, and let angels encamp around the household. Psalm 34:7 and Philippians 4:7 reinforce that God’s presence can guard both the home and the heart. When the soul rests in that truth, the night becomes less threatening. Lord, be my refuge tonight and keep every fear from ruling my mind. I lay this day at Your feet and release every burden into Your hands. Cleanse my heart, quiet my thoughts, and let me rest in Your peace. Keep me safe beneath Your care tonight. Cover my home with Your presence, let Your peace guard my heart, and teach my soul to trust You more. Tomorrow is in Your hands, and I rest in You. In Jesus’ mighty and matchless name...
